Prospecting can be time-consuming, and sometimes disheartening. But what if new donors sought you out instead of you seeking them? Wouldn’t it be great to take some solid ‘social proof’ to new prospects to show them just how important your work is?

You or your team members may write press releases, arrange press conferences, or speak with journalists but PR efforts can take time and if not strategic, can backfire.

In this program, we will talk about how to build a strong PR effort to raise the brand recognition of your organization and leverage community engagement and support. We will discuss real-life examples of programs that leveraged PR tools and were successful and why. We will discuss what entails a strong public relations effort and how it can be key to successful fundraising for any size nonprofit.

Effective and consistent public relations efforts can reap rewards by increasing fundraising:

  • People contact you, volunteer, and donate.
  • People know your name and what you do, jumpstarting the cultivation process.
  • Media coverage provides proof that what you do matters and that your organization is a leader in providing solutions to urgent issues.

This program will be interactive and engaging for fundraisers of all experience levels. Later in the year, we plan on bringing to you a second program that will delve into other aspects of this important topic.

Speaker: Maliha Imami, Chief Development and External Relations Officer at SAMMinistries, has almost 30 years of nonprofit experience ranging from work with refugee resettlement to workforce development, child abuse and neglect, education, domestic violence, and homelessness.

In addition to her fundraising responsibilities, Maliha oversees the planning, developing, and implementation of stakeholder communications, public relations, branding efforts, and volunteer engagement with her team of thirteen fundraising and marketing professionals. She also builds and grows relationships with strategic external allies including individuals, foundations, corporations, and public officials.
